Membership
in SPBGMA is for a calendar-year and is done by registration and
the paying of nominal membership dues.

The corporate
charter states that the goals of SPBGMA are:
- To preserve
the traditional spirit and art form of Bluegrass music,
- To offer
a management service for any community desiring to hold a Bluegrass
festival,
- To organize
and conduct Bluegrass Band competitions,
- In all SPBGMA
sponsored events, instruments must be traditional acoustic instruments,
no electrified instruments permitted,
- To encourage
professionalism in appearance and showmanship by the performers
at SPBGMA events,
- To encourage
the support of various Bluegrass publications and associations.
